Weekend in the Eastern Shore, Maryland

Weekend in the Eastern Shore, Maryland

We were obviously getting desperate to get back to our traveling routing. After spending hours and days on researching getaways within driving distance, reading up on towns following CDC guidelines on reopening and social distancing, and monitoring the daily cases, we finally booked a quick getaway to the Eastern Shore in Maryland to celebrate our three year anniversary in June. The Eastern Shore is truly a hidden gem as most folks flock to mainly the beaches such as Ocean City or Rehoboth. Going to the beach was definitely out of the question for us. We weren’t ready to be around massive amounts of beach-goers yet.

Ultimately, we ended up booking a room at a local B&B in Easton, MD. With a full weekend planned to visit the area cities, we packed up and hit the road shortly before lunch time! During the summer, if we are crossing over the Bay Bridge, we must stop at the Fisherman’s Crab Deck in Grasonville, MD for delicious crabs and orange crushes. No trip to that side of MD is complete without stopping there.

Where to Stay

While enjoying our lunch at the Fisherman’s Crab Deck, we received a call from the B&B informing us their water heater is out of service for the weekend. Of course, I panicked as the itinerary was based on the distance from the B&B. The B&B owner was sweet enough to get us a room at the Wylder Hotel in Tilghman Island, MD. Although it put us a bit out of the way from the cities we wanted to visit, the Wylder Hotel was a beauty. We lucked out! The Wylder Hotel is beautifully located with an amazing bay view, offering a spacious outdoor pool, a waterfront bar/restaurant, plenty of outdoor seating with bonfires at night. The external beauty of the property puts the interior of the rooms to shame. The rooms are extremely dated and small. The Wylder Hotel also offers boat ramps for those wanting to sail to the property. It is located immediately next to the hotel’s outdoor bar/restaurant.

Oxford

If you have never been to Oxford, you’re not missing much other than Doc’s Sunset Grille. The view of the bay is spectacular with boat ramps making it convenient for sailors to dock. Their food is not anything to rave about but their orange crushes and chips are amazing.

Where to Eat

  • Grasonville: Fisherman’s Crab Deck

  • Easton: Dinner at an Italian restaurant Scossa Restaurant & Lounge. Amazing gnocchi and Seafood soup. Because of COVID-19, seating everywhere was limited but the restaurants were well prepared with outdoor seating and social distancing! Kuddos to small business owners for continuing to serve the hungry guests.

  • Oxford: Doc’s Sunset Grille

  • St. Michael’s:

    • St. Michael’s Crab and Steakhouse: Get everything on the menu! Seriously, this restaurant will not disappoint with anything you order.

    • Ava’s: Cute little Italian specializing in pizza. They also sell bottles of wine to-go!

    • Gina’s: This restaurant was highly recommended by the people we spoke with at the Wylder Hotel. Be warned that they do not have chicken. Gina’s is known for their tacos, which were actually a disappointment for us. However, because they were highly recommended, I’m adding them to the list for anyone wanting to venture out.

    • Foxy’s: Not really a restaurant but a late night bar with music, if you’re in the mood. The age group of guests there is 20’s

    • Lowe’s Wharf: Perfect for a sunset and cocktails on their make-shift beach

What to Wear

During the summer, a short dress and flats will do just fine or you can keep it casual with shorts/rompers. However, it does get chilly at night, especially when sitting outside. Bring a light cardigan or shawl to stay warm!
