Weekend in San Diego, California
We’ve finally booked a weekend getaway to San Diego to visit family. This trip is long overdue! We’re heading there towards the middle of March when the weather is still in the mid-60s. If you’ve read the other blogs on this site, you have already established that mid-60s is way too cold for me!
Have you heard of #secretswings on Instagram? Apparently it’s a thing! While I would love to go hunting for a quick photo op on a hidden swing, I’d rather not waste half a day when I could spend it cuddling my niece! However, my visits are never complete without finding off the beaten path, hidden gems. So, time permitting, here are few spots we’re planning on checking out:
Spruce Street Suspension Bridge: It’s just that - a suspension bridge built in 1912. The bridge does sway slightly due to wind and foot traffic. However, not anything like a Jumanji movie. Location: Spruce St 1st Ave, San Diego, CA 92103 (California Through My Lens has additional details, including pictures and a map if you’re interested.)
Convoy Street - Asian Restaurant Row: Hot pots, noodles, dumplings! Yumm!
Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar: Although roasted bone marrow doesn’t sound like my sort of appetizer, I’m sure Pepe would love to indulge! They’re also known for their Old Cuban cocktail. Ok, this place is definitely sounding like a bar Pepe would love!
Altitude Sky Lounge: Rooftop bar with a gorgeous view of the city. Need I say anymore!?
Shakespeare Pub: With a British influenced decor and menu, they are known for the best fish and chips in San Diego.
The Shout! House: Dueling pianos 7-days a week.
Given the two-three days we’re there, this is a good starting point. I’m sure my family would have great recommendations once we arrive, and we’ll definitely find more from chatting with the locals as we always do.
Stay tuned for an update in early April!
