Sugarloaf Vineyards

Sugarloaf Vineyards

Whether you spend an hour, an afternoon, or an entire day here, you will not be disappointed. I started coming to Sugarloaf about a year ago and absolutely fell in love with the peaceful surroundings, amazing wine, and the friendliness of the staff. It’s nestled in between lush green mountains, an open-air outdoor patio with live music during the summer months.

The winery is pet-friendly and kids are welcome, as well. Although I wouldn’t really recommend it for a kid-friendly outing as there are no playgrounds or open fields to play ball. Grilling is not allowed, but guests can bring food. We often take cheese, crackers, and finger food that will not spoil in the summer heat. Also packed in our picnic basket is a deck of cards and board games! Nothing like a good game while enjoying the sun, live music, great wine, and amazing company!

When I visited last month, the winery staff shared that they are in the process of building a new tasting room directly above their existing tasting room. Looking forward to that! It’s going to overlook the entire winery. I’m sure the view is going to be amazing.

If the outdoor is too hot, guests can enjoy the air conditioned (or heated in the winter) indoor sitting area located in the tasting room. Pets are not allowed in the indoor tasting room. Restrooms are also located in the main tasting room.

During the summer, get to Sugarloaf Winery early to ensure you have seats. Although there is ample seating, it tends to get crowded as the day goes on. We usually show up as soon as the winery opens and within an hour, most seats are occupied.

Membership

Last fall, I attended a grape smashing event at the winery during which I signed up to become a member. It’s approximately $60-$70 per quarter, with three bottles of wine at the beginning of the quarter as a members package. During visits, all wine tastings are free, and 10% discount of wine bottles and snacks sold by the winery. Not sure if that includes their summer food trucks or not. Guess I’ll find out this summer! I’ll be sure to come back and update once I find out. The membership is definitely worth it since we frequent here quite a bit for their amazing wines.

Wines

My personal favorite wine at Sugarloaf Winery is their Evo (red wine). However, they have run out of stock of Eno at the Winery for the season. It’s currently in the making but can be found for double or triple the cost at some area wine stores. (or just wait until next season and enjoy their other wines in the meantime!)

Comus is another great red wine. Very similar to the Evo. If you’re into white wine, try their Chardonnay.

Ah, the fresh sangria made daily! It’s actually absolutely perfect for a warm sunny day. They don’t sell it by the pitcher but glasses are available for purchase.

Card or cash can be used to purchase wine, sangria, and snacks.

What to wear

Anything, really. The winery does not have an official dress code. I’ve seen guests in hiking/gym clothes either coming back from hiking Sugarloaf Mountain or headed there after the winery. I’ve seen guests dressed up in maxi dresses (women), or polos (men). Try to avoid pointy heels, if at all possible, since most of the winery grounds is grass.
